Fund-raising for your school, charity, church group or animal ante cruelty league is a massive problem. Sporting events and junior teams are always looking for funds too! Calling cards are an excellent way to raise funds for any of these worthy causes. This is particularly true if there is a residual income attached to the selling activity. A residual income means that the income continues to be generated as a fund raising source for many years to come.
Q) How does fund raising work with calling cards?
A) In principle you bulk buy pre-paid phone cards from a wholesaler and then sell them on behalf of your charity, school or organization. The profit generated goes to the organization in question.
Q) Do I have to print anything on the cards?
A) No you don't have to print anything if you don't want to. Standard calling cards can be purchased in bulk. You will save the printing costs if you sell them like this.
Q) Is it better if they are printed with our school or charity logo?
A) It depends on the volume. In general cards with specific logos sell better; however if there are only a few being sold it is not economical to print them. Cards with specific logos are also easier to sell as the purchaser associates with the fund raising activity. Nicely printed pre-paid cards can also be a nice talking point which leads to more sales. Printed cards also become collectors items.
Q) What denominations should we buy?
A) Anything from $5 to $100. Typically $20 is a good number as the card doesn't expire too quickly.
Q) What is this residual income all about?
A) Many calling card companies sell calling cards with an affiliate or referrer scheme. This means that when a repurchase of a card is made it generates income to the person (in this case your fund raising activity) again. The big benefit of this that the income stream often lasts a number of years.
The other way of generating a residual income is for your school or club to always have them on sale.
